THE THREE SISTERS

The corn is coming up and soon it will be time for step two.....

This year is my first time implementing what is called "The Three Sisters"; an American Indian custom which incorporates corn, a climbing bean, and squash which in turn provides a healthy diet and long term soil fertility.

  2. thanks for the comments and questions--the process is called companion planting- and corn is a place for the beans to climb-the beans provide nitrogen to the soil and the squash spreads preventing weeds and helps to retain moisture in the soil-- also planted marigolds in hope to avoid squash bugs---Kandy Korn was my choice of corn had used it last year and was really happy with it,Kentucky Wonder pole beans and Zucchini Dark squash
